REGISTRATION LINKS BELOW!

WHAT:  The Canterbury Mounted Lesson Program:  Our Mounted Lesson program helps members prepare for certifications by teaching skills, make horsey friends and support networks between members.

*These lessons are subsidized by the club's fundraising*

WHO:  LESSONS ARE FOR EVERYONE!

  1. CPC Lessons prepare members for Certification Testing which is at the heart of the Pony Club program.
  2. They help all levels become more proficient riders
  3. They provide senior members opportunities to shadow instructors & examiners
  4. Cs are working to to develop their teaching skills and regular participation creates opportunities to assist Ds in mounted activities.
  5. The District Commissioner needs to see candidates ride so they can evaluate readiness to certify.

WHEN:  Lessons are offered Spring, Summer and Fall

HOW ELSE DO WE HELP YOU PREPARE FOR TESTING?

The Mock Certification Clinic:  This Clinic is offered to members twice a year to practice meeting the standards 4-5 weeks before the actual test.  If members are prepared to the top of the standard, they gain confidence and comfort from the clinic, knowing that they can "meet" or "exceed "standards.

3 Pony Club Lesson Minimum for Mock Clinic:  A Member is required to participate in a minimum of 3 Pony Club lessons with the club or, with the permission of the DC, lesson with another approved Pony Club Instructor BEFORE participating in the Mock Certification Clinic. These lessons should focus on preparing the member for the certification goal.

Since the DC is required to approve members to certify, The Mock Clinic is an important opportunity for the DC to observe each member's readiness.

To demonstrate readiness, members will submit a signed checklist appropriate to their intended certification goal when they register for the Mock Clinic.

Members should practice ALL the mounted skills with their instructor(s),  the unmounted skills with a parent or instructor, including fulfilling turnout expectations, in order to benefit most from the Clinic.

Members or mounts who are not deemed safe or ready will be encouraged to keep developing their skills and test at a later date.

Parent Tips:

  • Please review the relevant Test Sheets and Book Work with your child and help your member print the correct Checklist(s) and communicate with your child's instructor.
  • Help your member schedule time on the family calendar to clean tack, wash horses, arrange for hoof trimming if needed, complete record books and make sure all required equipment is borrowed or purchased in preparation for the day.
  • Be sure your child practices answering these questions out loud as that is how they will be examined.
