Certification Testing

Certification is an evaluation of a member’s ability to meet a specific standard and is at the heart of the Pony Club program. The District Commissioner (DC) evaluates readiness to certify, making regular attendance at mounted lessons and unmounted Club activities crucial to this determination. Successful completion of lessons and preps, checklists or "Mock Certifications,” are prerequisites for certifications, in an effort to help determine readiness – especially when a member has been away at college or does not ride regularly with the club.

Canterbury offers a minimum of two in-club opportunities to certify each year.  Usually these events are in June and September.  Consult the club calendar for the exact dates each year.

How to get Ready?  Participate as much as you can!

1. Our Mounted Lesson Program is designed to teach the Pony Club Standards, build camaraderie & friendships between members, and provide opportunities for more senior members to teach and assist junior ones.  So, member attendance is important for the member and the life of the club.  Click here to find out more about how to participate.

2.  Test Sheets, Checklists, and Standards of Proficiency and other resources for certification prep can be found on the USPC Website.  Print these out and read over them well before the test.

3.  CPC Book Work packets are available for each level, are on this website under the Members Tab.  Read your manual.

4.  "The Certification Countdown", is a handy guide for parents and members to know what to do and when, in order to be prepared.

6.  Complete the Letter of Intent to Certify by the deadline.

After a member has successfully participated in the Mock Certification Clinic or completed the checklist for their level, they should read the written feedback from the examiner and decide, with their parents and instructor, whether they are ready to certify.  If they are, they need to complete the Letter of Intent to Certify.  This lets the DC know that the member is committing to certify on the appointed date.

Certification Testing is FREE the first time a member attempts a test. Canterbury Pony Club uses fundraising dollars to support every member the first time they test at a given level.

The Letter of Intent is a commitment.  If a member backs out of the testing for any reason, the member will be responsible for paying for the testing at the next testing opportunity.

The Letter of Intent Form is found here.

This document will serve as your registration form for this event.
